“It is beautiful to believe in Jesus because he is “the way, and the truth, and the life” (Jn 14:6) who fills our existence with joy and cheerfulness. This endeavor to make Jesus known as the highest form of beauty brings us to encounter new signs and ways to transmit the faith. The means may be different but what is important is to keep in mind the style of Jesus who adapted to the people he had before him in order to bring them closer to the love of God. One must know how to “change”, to adapt in order to bring the message closer, though it is always the same, because God does not change, but renews all things in him. In the creative endeavor to make Jesus known, we must not have fear because he is ahead of us in this task.”
The words of Pope Francis are particularly applicable in 2020 as we continuously change and adapt to the COVID-19 pandemic. As we look ahead to the 2020-21 Religious Education year, we know that masks and social distancing will be with us for some time and that this year’s program will differ greatly from that of previous years.
As you raise your children, this should be your primary concern, i.e. to assist your children, as far as you are able, to get to Heaven! As the primary educators of your children in matters of Catholic Faith and morals, it is your grave duty to see to it that your sons and daughters receive a thorough and in depth understanding of the teachings of Christ and his Church, as well as developing an active prayer life which leads them to a frequent reception of the Sacraments.
The parish stands ready to assist (but never replace) parents in their vital role as religious educators. Each family as a "domestic church", needs to take very seriously its obligation to impart the fullness of Catholic Faith to a new generation of Catholics. In doing this, the setting of good example is of paramount importance!
Our parish program of religious education is an outstanding resource and supplement for parents. We encourage all of you to allow us to assist you in this important mission by enrolling your children in our parish program. It reinforces and completes what each parent should begin to impart at home.
At Epiphany, our Religious Education Program is intended for Catholic faith formation over years and not only for receiving sacraments. The program is designed to have continuity from grade 1 through high school and to foster lifelong learning of the Catholic faith. Skipping years between sacraments interrupts faith formation and confidence in living, witnessing, and evangelizing the faith.
We will have weekly virtual classroom sessions with a catechist (via Zoom). The zoom classes will be during the catechesis regular class times, Wednesday from 3:30 to 5:00pm for grades 1-5 and Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:30pm for grades 6 and up. Please register your child as soon as possible, download and complete the CCD Registration (one per child). New students MUST submit copies of Birth, Baptism and Communion certificates. Registration will take place starting August 26th to September 9th 2020.
• Classes are scheduled to begin on Wednesday, September 16, 2020.
Since the salvation of your child takes precedence over every other consideration, we hope you avail yourselves of our assistance and do your best to see to it that your children faithfully attend weekly instruction as well as regularly participate in the liturgical life of our parish.
Let us pray that this crisis ends soon. Stay healthy, safe and well. May God bless you & yours!
Sincerely in Christ,
Religious Education Coordinator
